Attendees: Rachel Martin, Clemens Von Scheffer, Michelle Shortt
Apologies: Gavin was absent as he was representing ACF at a Climate Week event.
Minutes of Feb meeting
Laurie contacted Morrisons about cycling infrastructure at different shops and they’re in the process of setting something up. Clemens said Gavin sent another email to Dobbies – he went there and discovered there are no cycle racks and sent an email. They replied to Clemens who said plans are afoot.
Consultations
George St mini-masterplan
The George Street mini-masterplan consultation is open and closes on 28th April. Responses can be submitted here https://consultation.aberdeencity.gov.uk/commissioning/george-street-draft-mini-masterplan-consultation/
Rachel attended the last ACTUP meeting where Nigel McDowell from the city council presented the plans. There are some good things in the plans in terms of rejuvenating the area and improving the ambience however detail on cycling infrastructure was lacking – it’s not clear whether it will be properly segregated and it looks to be a bit roundabout rather than on direct routes.
Ellon to Garthdee corridor
This consultation is open now too and closes on the 13th March –
There are four options under consideration – we have a preference for the 1st and 3rd options with the 1st prioritising active travel and the 3rd prioritising active travel AND public transport.
Clean Air day event (15 June)
We are keen to have a table at this event. We could bring postcards, stickers, the remaining neck warmers with our logos on them … anything else? It appears to be a Thursday though so not clear how we’ll get volunteers for it since most of us work during the day.
Cycle parking
On-street secure shelters
We haven’t emailed the council yet with a list of potential locations for cycle shelters. Gavin will get input from our membership on this.
Commercial centres
See at the start of the minutes about contacting businesses regarding cycling parking.
Events
Reminder Critical Mass this week – Clemens has made contact with a group of students at the University of Aberdeen who are keen to get involved with cycle advocacy. They are going to start a mini critical mass from the University to the starting point on Friday night.
Litter pick – location ideas – We decided to tentatively set a day and place for this but since it was a small meeting we can bring it up again next month. We’ve chosen 20th August 1pm on the south side of the River Dee next to Victoria Bridge. We could make it a summer event with cake or something yummy.
Annual cycle count
Clemens said he could ask the student group he’s made contact with whether they’d be interested in volunteering for this. Maybe one of them would be interested in taking it on and making it a bit of a project. If we’re going to do it we should do it in May. Gavin is going to ask the council what automatic counting data they have and if it’s lacking we’ll go ahead with our count. Results from previous cycle counts are here https://aberdeencycleforum.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/2020/08/48068-acf-cycle-count-2019-summary.pdf and they do have useful data.
Any other business
Date of next meeting – provisionally Tues 25 April and includes AGM
